L.W. Speed's Obituary
SPEED, L.W. ‘BUD’ Bud Speed passed away on August 6, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 22, 1940 in Seminary, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1962 and graduated from Southwestern Graduate School of Banking in Dallas. He was a banker in Lufkin, Garland and Dallas, Texas. He owned numerous Auto Parts Wholesale and Retail Stores. Bud’s last endeavor was his Bingo business. Bud is survived by his wife, Vicky, of Plano, and his children, Bill Speed, Vicky Teddlie and husband, Brian, two grandchildren, Stuart and Ben Teddlie. Bud’s Mississippi surviving family includes: Gerald Speed, Wanda Simmons & Harvey Simmons, Linda and Larry Porche, Brenda Fore and many nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include his mother-in-law, Sandra Shupe and brother-in-law, Clay Johnson and his wife, Amy. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maggie and father, Conley Speed and brother, Gary Speed. He loved to beat the odds with horses, sports, cards and golf. Bud was given little odds seventeen years ago with the news of cancer. Bud never liked to win an easy game and with life, he gave it his best. Bud was known to many as ‘Bingo.’ He loved holding court at GlenEagles CC and he was a mentor to many. Open visitation will be held Friday, August 8, 2008 at Restland Funeral Home. Memorial service will be 3:30 PM, August 9, 2008 at Restland Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
