OZMUN, LYLE WALTER A life well lived – Lyle W. Ozmun born April 5,1918 in Lawton OK, passed away at age 95 on August 5, 2013 at Baylor Heart Hospital, Dallas,Texas. He grew up in Lawton, OK, attended Lawton High School, Kemper Military School in Boonesville, MO, and was a Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma University. After graduation in 1940, he married Patricia Prigmore of Oklahoma City, OK. He served in the 33rd Infantry Division, US Army, during World War II in the western Pacific theater. Civic minded, community involved – After military service, he began a successful career in the automobile business for over 40 years. He began as a district Sales Manager with Chrysler and Ford Motor Companies in 1950, served as GM of Jack Roach Ford in Houston, TX, 1955-1958, and became the owner of his first dealership in Stafford, TX, 1958-1961. He opened one of the first VW dealerships in Dallas in 1963 on Northwest Highway. Later, he owned Lyle Ozmun VW/Subaru in Oak Cliff, 1977-1986. He was one of the originators of the Dallas Auto Show in 1982, served as Chairman of Dallas Auto Show, served on the Board of Dallas New Car Dealer Association, and served on VW National Dealer Council. He was a founding member of the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce. In all his endeavors he showed a keen sense of personal responsibility, generosity and kindness. A man of great faith – He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving as an intercessor in the Prayer Tower, and song leader/teacher in 2X2 Sunday school class. He was also involved with several ministries including the Texas Bible Society and taught a men’s weekly Bible study for 20 years. He was generous with his time, talents, and finances in sharing the gospel. He lived to serve others, lifting up his fellow man before himself. Strong love of Family – Lyle was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patricia P. Ozmun in 1991, and his daughter, Laura O. Taylor in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Janis O’Boyle Ozmun, her family, and his daughters, Sandra O. McDaniel and Patricia O. Bullock. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Julie M. Smith, Jeannette M. Cates, and Laura S. Bullock and his 6 great grandchildren Jessica, Bo, and Rett Cates and Grace, Harry, and Emma Smith. Visitation will be Thursday, August 8th from 6-8 pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas. Celebration of Lyle’s life service will be held Friday August 9 at 1:00 pm at Cox Chapel, Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas. A private family burial service will be held.
