Lynn Henry Guilloud's Obituary
GUILLOUD, LYNN HENRY 92, retired mechanical engineer, died Monday, August 19, 2013, in Dallas. He was born March 14, 1921, in Pottsboro, Texas, to Sallie Forisha and Henry Adolphe Guilloud. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University on May 16, 1942. The same day he received orders to report for duty with the Army Corps of Engineers. He participated in the WW II D-Day invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach in June 1944 and worked with his company to build bridges for the advancement of troops until VE day in August 1945. An interview recounting his experiences is now part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/diglib/vhp/story/loc.natlib.afc2001001.26760/). Upon returning to the States, he married Winnie Vee McClendon, also from Pottsboro, in 1947, and was a loving father to his daughters Brenda and Mary and his grandson Owen. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Dallas and Kansas City for 30 years before retiring in 1977. After Winnie’s death in 1999, he married Mary Catherine Sweet in 2001 and embraced his role as a father figure to her children and grandchildren. The most valued of gifts was the love he had for family and friends – and his willingness to share his many skills with anyone in need. He loved to hear and share stories. His sense of humor, in particular, will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cecil Don, and wife Winnie. He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine; children, Brenda Guilloud of Houston and Mary Sullivan of Roswell, Georgia; stepchildren, Rebecca Rooney of Dallas and Charles Sweet (spouse Alan Batson) of Arlington, Virginia; grandson Owen Sullivan (wife Ginah Colon) of Atlanta, Georgia; step-grandchildren, Samuel Rooney of Norman, Oklahoma, and Emma Rooney of Dallas, and siblings Jeanette Ball of Denison, Rudolph Guilloud of Cranberry, Pennsylvania, and Norman Guilloud (wife Denise) of Flemington, New Jersey. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Northridge Presbyterian Church, 6920 Bob-O-Link Dr., Dallas, TX 75214. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northridge Presbyterian Church of Dallas.
