Mabel Miller Smith's Obituary
SMITH, MABEL age 96, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2012. Born on a farm in Moniteau County, Missouri, Mabel attended William Woods College and graduated in 1934 with a degree in Languages. She was employed by the State of Missouri in the capitol building in Jefferson City. There she met and married R. E. Smith in 1941 and began their joyous marriage of 67 years. After beginning their family, they moved to Texas in 1951 and were longtime residents of Garland for 57 years. Mabel developed many close and rewarding relationships with neighbors and friends which she cherished. She was active in the First Christian Church, the Sequence Study Club, and Women’s Book Club as well as providing loving support for all the activities of her children. She was known as an accomplished gardener and outstanding cook. Mabel is survived by daughter and son-in-law Karen and Ray Bluhm, son and daughter-in-law Roger Smith and Jackye McGee, grandchildren Darren Smith and Shelley Smith, and great granddaughter Skye Pumpelly. Also survived by extended family Angela Smith and Amir Narangi. Memorial services will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at the Restland Memorial Park on Monday, April 2 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children @TSRHC.org
