Mackie Hopkins 's Obituary
Mackie Hopkins, 92, of Richardson, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020, in Richardson, Texas. She was born on Saturday, August 20, 1927, to her loving and thoughtful parents A.B. Short and Callie Hughes in Frost, Texas. Mackie will be sincerely missed by her loving family, her devoted friends and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
Mackie attended school in Frost, Texas and was a Frost Polar Bear cheerleader. She met her husband Tom R. Hopkins In Dallas. They were wed in Hollywood, CA. on the Bride and Groom radio show on January 31, 1950. They won many prizes and a honeymoon in Carmel, CA, as part of the show. They were married 31 years until his passing in August, 1981.
Mackie is survived by son Tom Hopkins, daughter Molly Ulmer and husband Mike. “Gaga” to her grandchildren Allyson Neal and husband Ryan, Christopher Ulmer and wife Rachel, and 4 great grandchildren, Prosper, Edgar and Marley Neal and Kaylie Ulmer.
Predeceased by husband Tom, father, mother, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Tom and Mackie were co-founders of First Community Church in East Dallas. They enjoyed spending time at their lake house and sailing on Lake Dallas. Mackie planned many sailing regatas at Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club. She also enjoyed several book clubs, Knife and Fork Dance Club and recruiting speakers for The Shepherd’s Center.
The family would like to thank good friends and caregivers Connie and Tony Jones for their loving care of Mackie for 7 years.
Funeral services for Mackie will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Restland Memorial Chapel, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243.
