Macrina Holmans was known as "Grandma" to me. Our family friendship dated back to 1982 when my grandfather took a walk and met Grandpa Holmans working in his yard. Grandma called us her "Indian family." As our grandparents were in India, Grandpa and Grandma were our grandparents here in the US. I remember visiting Grandma at the house in Dallas and at the lakehouse. She loved to bake and cook. I always remember her when I bake. I remember when Grandpa and Grandma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and when Grandpa passed away. She shared in so many of our family's joys -graduations (both high school and college), weddings, etc. I remember taking my newborn son to see her when she was at the assisted living place. Our last visit with her was in November 2008 at the nursing home. She was able to see my husband and my 2 children. It was wonderful to be able to see her even though her memory was failing. My prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends. I know that Grandma is in heaven now and that my life was better because I knew her.

When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. . . . We are confident that as you share in suffering, you will also share God's comfort. [2 Corinthians 1: 3-4; 7] My first memory of hearing about my daddy's brother and his wife, Charles and Margaret Holmans, was at the age of three or four. On Christmas day of 1954 or 1955, my mother opened a flat little package from Dallas. Charlie and Margaret had sent my mom a beautiful linen and lace hankie. She started crying and telling me about my dad's family and, especially, about this brother and his wife. I remember her saying how they had welcomed her into the Holmans family for a time during the brief marriage of my mom and dad, and how Charlie and Margaret had shown her inclusion, kindness, and love. This sweet gift to my mother endeared both of them to me for life!

I remember my first interaction with "Grandma" was before Michael her grandson and I got married. We visited both Grandma and Grandpa in their Dallas home and she told me all about cooking and that the best way to hold on to a man is through his stomach. She sat me down and showed me recipe after recipe and gave me a pencil and paper and had me write down as many recipes as I could for the time that we were visiting. I still have those wonderful tasting recipes today. I used to go to Dallas and pick Grandma up and bring her to our house and she would stay the whole weekend and she would visit with the kids and we would talk for hours, she was one of the sweetest women that I was blessed to know. I know that she is with the Lord and with the man that she has missed for a long time. God Bless you Grandma

I have very fond memories of "Grandma Holmans". I was part of her adopted "Indian" family along with my parents, brother and sister (Abraham, Alice, John and Rachel). Grandpa and Grandma Holmans lived around the block from us on Featherbrook Dr in East Dallas. My sister and I would love to go over and sit in their rocking chairs. We also loved Grandma's cooking and baking. She made everything taste so good!!! Although it has been some time since I saw her last, I will have very fond memories of her (attending weddings, graduations, etc). She was a jewel and will truly be missed! I have comfort knowing that she is with Grandpa now and she lived a life that Jesus would be proud of. Thank you Grandma for your life and your love!

I am the son of Aunt Macrina's brother-in-law William P. Holmans (Bill). Somehow it seems that we all have too much to do. I had known "Aunt Margaret" for all of my life, and it was not until the wedding of my daughter Julie several years ago, that she mentioned to me that she wanted to be Macrina. I was amused when, the next time I called her Aunt Macrina, she had forgotten about it, but I've never called her Margaret since. I'm so sorry to have missed her for several years now. The last time I saw her was more than ten years ago, when I went to Dallas and had lunch with Aunt Macrina and Charlie at the place where she lived. We had such a lovely time…..took me back to my early teens, when "Aunt Margaret" would be sure that Charlie and I would always get enough to eat. She was still doing the same thing at our table in that dining hall. We were the Snamloh brothers, Selrahc and Yllib, having a fine lunch with Aunt Macrina shoving plates at us, and asking if we were having enough. I'll miss Aunt Macrina, and really feel bad that we've somehow managed to drift apart since that time.
