Dr. Madden Douglas Jenkins Jr's Obituary
Madden Douglas Jenkins, Jr., 90, died September 28, 2015 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Mills) Jenkins; his son David and his wife, Lisa of Lafayette, LA; his son Mark Jenkins and his wife, Sallye of Dallas; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Becky, Tiffany, Taylor, Kara and her husband, Matthew; and one great-grandson, Noah. Doug was born in Houston, Texas on March 22, 1925 to Madden Douglas Jenkins and Kara Watkins Jenkins. He was a longtime Dallas resident and pediatrician. He graduated from Highland Park High School and completed his undergraduate education at SMU and the University of Texas. After completing medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, he did an internship at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He then served as Medical Officer for the US Navy from 1952-1954. In 1952, he met the love of his life, Margaret Mills, in Galveston at a church dance. They were later married in her hometown of Caldwell, Texas in 1953. He completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Medical Center and St. Paul Hospital in Dallas in 1956. Then began his pediatrics practice and medical career in Dallas which he retired from in 1997. His affiliations included Diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics, Texas Pediatric Society, Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He was also a charter staff member of Doctors Hospital in Dallas. Doug’s passion above all was family. But when not at home, office or hospital treating babies and children, Doug relished traveling. He was also a huge movie fan, particularly Bond films, loved books and could at least once or twice a week be found on the golf course. When it came to music, Doug was a big band and jazz fan. He started playing the banjo in his teens and continued playing his whole life, including the Dallas Banjo Band for many years. We will greatly miss this kind and gentle man of great compassion, character and generosity who loved his wife and family more than life itself. Burial will be held at Restland Memorial Park at 9:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Friday, October 9, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations to childrens hospitals in Madden’s honor would be greatly appreciated.
