Madge Spikes Reeves' Obituary
Madge Spikes Reeves, of Garland, Texas, passed away on October 25, 2009. Madge was born to Dot and Luther Spikes in El Paso on April 19, 1927. Early in life, her family moved to Grand Prairie and then to Terrell, where she graduated from Terrell High School. Her nephew David called her “Baa” when he couldn’t pronounce Madge, and everyone who loved her called her by that nickname. On December 28, 1947, Madge married Charles Woody Reeves. Woody’s work with Dr Pepper moved their family to homes in Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, and Tokyo, Japan, and allowed them to travel internationally. Madge often commented she had no complaints and had a wonderful life. Baa is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and Rick Gregg of Garland, Tracy and Rick Shamblin of McKinney, and Alison and Mark Medlen of Plano; grandchildren Michael and Jennifer Gregg of Austin, Richard and Elisa Gregg of Newton MA, Emily Shamblin of McKinney, Tyler Shamblin of McKinney, Sydney Medlen of Plano, and Hunter Medlen of Plano; great-grandchildren Harrison, Porter and Gustavo. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marge Spikes Copeland and Claudia Weatherford, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Madge was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Sam Spikes, sisters Martha Ann Young and Mary Kingrea, mother-in-law Linnie Reeves Mitchell, and sister-in-law Mary Helen Cacas. Visitation will be at Restland on Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 29, at 12:30 pm, at Restland Memorial Chapel, Pastor Wayne Wood officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Adventist Mission, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Springs, MD 20904, or a charity of your choice.
