Major Major Brooks was a great American. I was honored to be able to accompany him on a return to Normandy and Sainte-Mère-Église France for the 70th Anniversary of Operation Overload (D-Day) in June 2014. He was stationed in Sainte-Mère-Église shortly after D-Day with is squadron of P-38 Lightnings. He kept me laughing through the entire journey. In Sainte-Mère-Église, the mayor greated Major Brooks and showed him a picture from 1944 in which the then Mayor and Major Brooks were the picture with a little boy. The little boy was then the son of the Mayor in 1944. The little boy was now the current Mayor of Sainte-Mère-Église.I will remember Major Brooks for ever. The get thing about our visit to Normandy was that I was a Major in the USAF and Major Brooks was a Major in the Army Air Corps.
