Laniq Adams & Texas Pawprints
I work with a local animal rescue group and several years ago while in Petsmart doing adoptions, Gene and his wife Martha walked into the store. We were showing a Russian Blue kitten whose name was something Egyptian, Ra I think, and when Gene went to pick her up, she immediately climbed him – he was a tall man – and wrapped herself around his neck and perched on his shoulder. It was love at first sight for both – Foxy, as they renamed her, decided then and there that Gene was HERS and while Martha came first for Gene, I think Foxy was a close second. They would come in the store periodically after that to show us how well Foxy was doing – and she would always be riding on Gene's shoulder. She had a collar and leash that I remember, but he never needed it. I think that's a wonderful testament as to the kind of man Gene was – that his family and the pets were so devoted to him. I didn't know Gene well, but I know he was a gentle, loving and generous man. Our deepest sympathies go out to Martha and his family.
