Marcella M. Schreiner's Obituary
SCHREINER, MARCELLA “MARCIE” beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on November 23,2013. Born Marcella M. Darst on May 10, 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky to Constance and Shelby Darst. Marcie started life living above the family grocery store with her parents and three sisters. After graduating from high school, Marcie worked for the L & N Railroad. One benefit of working for the railroad was complimentary travel. On a trip to Biloxi, Mississippi she met Alvin (AI) Douglas Schreiner, who, at the time, was stationed in the air force. On June 21, 1953 Marcie and AI were married at Third Lutheran Church. They remained in Louisville for two years living with Marcie’s parents, before moving to Houston, Texas so that AI could begin his accounting career with Magcobar. While in Houston, Marcie worked as a personal secretary, in the trust department at First City National Bank. Although Marcie loved the banking industry, she decided to become a stay-at-home mother when her daughter’s Lynn and Lori were born. In the summer of 1966, Dresser Industries gave AI the opportunity to move to London, England. Marcie and AI were thrilled. Along with their girls, they happily relocated and quickly fell in love with England. Marcie was in her element! Most weekends and holidays were spent on family outings to museums, castles, country manors, and West End plays. A year assignment turned into fourteen and Marcie’s thirst for travel soon took the family to Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Poland, France, Czechoslovakia, and even East and West Berlin passing through Checkpoint Charlie. She was the ultimate American ambassador! Marcie’s love of travel and history led to an extensive collection of beautiful antiques, each of which has a special story. In 1980 the family returned to Houston, Texas. Although Marcie and AI remained in Houston until Marcie’s death, they continued to return to their beloved second home, London, as often as possible. Marcie is survived by her loving husband AI Schreiner of 60 years. She is also survived by her daughter’s Lynn Dennerstein and Lori Morgan; her son-in-laws Neil Dennerstein and William Morgan; her three precious grandchildren, Ethan Dennerstein, Makayla Morgan, and Madeline Morgan; her sister Edith Voit; her sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Bill Miller, and numerous nephews and nieces. Marcie will always be remembered for her happy smile and fun loving spirit. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Restland Memorial Park, Whispering Waters III.
