Margaret O. Ball's Obituary
BALL, MARGARET OWEN Life-time Dallas and Park Cities resident, Mrs. Margaret Elma Owens Ball, died on April 21, 2012. She was born September 21, 1919, to Edward Lawrence Owens and Elma Kendall Owens, their youngest child of five, in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert (Bill/Doc) Ball (10/2/01), and by her siblings and their spouses: Elizabeth Owens French and Thomas, Mary Owens Downs and Robert, Harry Owens and Dollie, and Eugene Owens and Freda. She was a graduate of North Dallas High School, attended SMU for a year, modeled, and worked for a time for Studebaker. After marrying Bill, June 20, 1942 in Abilene, TX while he was in the Army, they lived in San Antonio during the war. They moved back to Dallas with their 1st son, Jim, and welcomed their 2nd son, Larry, later. They built a home in University Park on Rosedale, later moving to Amherst where they lived until 2001 and 2009 respectively. She was a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church since 1946, volunteered in the Care Closet ministry, and was a member of the Joy Sunday School class. She loved being a part of her garden club, cooking, trading recipes, playing cards, games, sewing, water aerobics at the Park Cities YMCA and fishing with Bill at the Woodvale Fishing Club in Mineola, TX. Her life’s goal was to help those in need, be it family or friend. She was always a cheerful care-giver. Survivors include her sons, James Henry Ball II, and wife Barbara, and William Lawrence Ball, and wife, Theresa. She had five grandchildren: William R. (Bill) Ball, James H. (Trey) Ball, III, Laura Hayley Ball, all of Richardson, and Margaret O. (Meghan) Ball, Dallas, and Kendall C. (Casey) Ball, Bryan, TX. Extended family survivors include nieces and nephews: Mr. Robert Harahan, Fort Myers, FL; Mrs. Wayne (Betty) Douglas, Farmers Branch, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Karl (Betsy) Ziegler, of The Villages, FL; Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. (Langley) Downs, Jr., Dallas, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Betsy) Owens, Sherman, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. (Boo) Owens, Dallas, TX, and Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Paula) Garrett, Mesquite, TX. She is survived by numerous great, and great great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death also by nephews Wayne Douglas and Joseph P. Downs, great nephew Kendall Downs, and nieces Mrs. Robert (Blanquita) Downs and Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann French Stone) Haragan. This should be your ambition: To live a quiet life, minding your own business and doing your own work, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders…. (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 12:30PM, Thursday, April 26 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
