Margaret Cooper Brookner's Obituary
BROOKNER, MARGARET COOPER – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Margaret Cooper Brookner. Mom was born on December 14, 1929 in Humboldt, IA and passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Mom later moved with her large family to Cedar Rapids, IA. It was here that she met Al Brookner (who preceded her in death a year ago) at McKinley High School. They soon married and celebrated 62 years of family, love and devotion to each other. Their four children were all born in Cedar Rapids. Mom & Dad moved to Richardson with their children in 1963 and lived in the area until their deaths. Mom was a talented seamstress, cook, and gardener and was an expert at home decor and crafts. She was the quiet center of our family. Mom was supportive of all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and she immensely enjoyed all of our endeavors and activities. Her down to earth personality and gentle sense of humor helped to make our lives rich and fun. She is survived by her children, Susan Hood (Don), Julie Holt (Tom), Steve Brookner (Sally), and Jeff Brookner (Melissa); grandchildren, Austin Hood, Hilary Hood, Jennifer Dahl (Brandon), Lindsey McCullah (David), Kelsey Buchman (Bob), Drew Brookner, Zach Brookner, and Josh Brookner; great-grandchildren, Brynley and Preston; three sisters, Dorothy Ann, Jean, Carol, and recently deceased sister, Merry; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Honor our mom by accepting others, listening to each other, telling a joke, and baking brownies. A special thanks to the kindness of the staff at the Wellington who lovingly cared for Mom the past year. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 at Restland Memorial Park. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held immediately following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mom’s name to Network of Community Ministries 972/234-8880, Family Gateway-Dallas or your favorite charity.
