Margaret Theresa Burton's Obituary
Margaret Theresa Salazar Burton, McKinney, TX, 93, was called to her eternal home on Monday, August 12, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m., Monday, August 19 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, McKinney, Texas. Interment, Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 18, Restland Chapel, with rosary to follow.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Miss Margaret’s honor to the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 9903, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 411 Paula Rd. McKinney, TX 75061. The Knights of Columbus provided Margaret with a wheelchair as part of their Wheelchair Mission Campaign, which is an initiative to provide aid to those who lack freedom of mobility in the community.
Miss Margaret was born, September 8, 1930, to Francisco Salazar and Fidela Quintana in Monte Vista, Colorado. As a young girl she excelled in high school where she enjoyed learning more about math subjects. Later on, she met her future husband, of 45 years loving years of marriage, Jones Marvin Burton, in Denver, Colorado while he was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Base. Together, they later had five children. The enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, dancing, and traveling. They spent a short time in Laurens, South Carolina where they resided for a short time and they settled down in Dallas, Texas since 1969. Later in life after the passing of her husband, she enjoyed traveling to numerous cities in the US and particularly New York City when her son Randy worked and ultimately moved to Chicago for a few years while Randy worked for Sears Holdings and attended Northwestern University for his graduate studies. With all the travel, she also honed a love for her favorite baseball teams the great New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. In her later years, she also grew a fondness to the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Over her long life, she was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, where she enjoyed being around numerous friends at the 7:30am and 11:30am Masses. Other parishes in the Dallas Diocese where she attended were Christ The King in University Park and Good Shepard in Garland, Texas. It was at St Michael’s in McKinney where she adopted the name “Miss Margaret”, which she was more commonly known as within her vast, loving church community.
Miss Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, first son Michael Wayne, Husband, siblings Robert Salazar, Albert Salazar, and Lilian Stoumbaugh.
SURVIVORS: Loving son and primary caretaker of over 26 years, Randy, other surviving children; Kenneth Martin Burton of Granbury, TX; Glenn David Burton of Ft Worth, TX; and Yvonne Annette Burton of Anna, TX; sister Mary Martinez of Denver, Colorado; nieces, Linda and husband Hank Debalak of Aurora, Colorado; Loretta Hernandez of Denver, Colorado; one granddaughter and five grandsons; numerous great grandchildren; closest friends, Virginia and Joe Macias, Santiago, Yeni, and Miguel Gaeti, and Father Salvador Guzman of St. Pius Catholic Church, Dallas TX, Knight of Columbus Chapter 9903, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, McKinney, TX.
