Margaret Corrinne Cass' Obituary
Better known as Tesee or Margie, she was first and foremost a woman of faith and a lover of family. Diminutive in stature just like her mother, she was blessed with a creative spirit as evidenced by her love of ceramics, where she built a community following for her works of art and shared abundantly with her Garden Club friends. She was the epitome of what it means to employ a servant’s heart, particularly her long standing participation in Meals on Wheels and support of the Women’s Ministry at North Highlands Bible Church.
Margaret Corrinne Cass, 78, of Garland, Texas, died on Easter morning, Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was born in Artesia, New Mexico on June 28, 1946, to Dr. John R. McMurrain and Tiny Bebe Boone-Bennett. Before Margaret’s second birthday, the family moved back to their home state of Texas and settled in Garland. It wasn’t long before little Margaret became known as Tesee, her name bestowed by her younger siblings. Her passion for motherhood had an early start as she so enjoyed dressing her brother in her own play clothes and then directing their every move!
Margie graduated from Garland High School in 1964, a stunning beauty, class favorite and one-time Garland Owl cheerleader. She married her high school sweetheart and in 1969 delivered a son, William Todd Theis. Todd was her dream come true, her pride and joy. She worked as a secretary and raised Todd, looking far beyond the struggles of single motherhood.
Margie found her soulmate in Donald Earl Cass. They married February 12,1988 in Dallas, Texas. They loved to bring their families together to celebrate all the holidays and Sunday dinners, particularly to watch the Dallas Cowboys. Don and Margie enjoyed traveling in ‘The Van’ to countless destinations around the country and celebrating many wonderful milestones throughout their 37 years together. One tradition that really accentuates their love of family and faith was the Annual Cass Christmas, which included very competitive games of bingo, Campisi’s pizza and Jesus’ birthday cake, which Margie made from scratch every year for all to enjoy.
A new joy came to her world when her grandson, Preston Avery Theis, was born. Margie and Don loved afternoon visits from their children because it meant time with their grandchildren (Alex, Cassie, Preston, Kylie and Mallory) and a great-grandchild, Teddy.
Midlife brought with it physical and mental trials to Margie’s life. She tackled these challenges by diving into her faith. Her first speaking engagement came when she was asked to share her journey with a group of 50 women at a retreat organized by her sister. Although challenging, this part of her journey was focused on Seeking God, Matthew 6:33 and Trusting the Lord, Proverbs 3:5-6. Tesee lived life to the fullest and even with a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis she never worried because she trusted in God’s perfect plan. She leaves us with a legacy centered on faith, to do the right thing and love your family and friends unconditionally.
Margie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tiny and Dr. John McMurrain, and her brother, John McMurrain. She is survived by her dearest husband, Don Cass, her son, Todd Theis, his wife, Angie and son Preston, her sister, Betsy Tucker and her niece, Kami McMurrain, as well as, her stepdaughter, Debby Johnson and her family, including husband Richard, son Alex Tooke, his wife McKenna and their son Teddy, daughter Cassie Howie and her husband Braden, her stepson, Richard Cass and his family, including his wife Staci, daughters Kylie and Mallory, as well as, other family and friends.
Visitation and Remembrance Service is Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park beginning at 1:00pm. Gravesite burial will immediately follow.
