Margaret Jo Jennings Pounders' Obituary
Rev. Margaret Jo Jennings Pounders
Margaret Jo Jennings Pounders was born January 25, 1933, the only child of a late-in-life marriage of Joseph Bascomb Jennings “JB” and Margret L. Hinkle Jennings. On March 24, 2023, Margaret passed away gently surrounded by her family.
Growing up, Margaret graduated from Irving HS, attended Arlington State College, and graduated from SMU with a degree in business. In September 1952, she met Air Force cadet Frank Pounders on a blind date. Lt. Pounders proposed in 1955 and they began their 68 year marriage. They were stationed in Presque Isle Maine, Jacksonville, Florida, and Dover, Delaware.
After Frank was released from active duty, they returned to Dallas, TX. Margaret became a full–time mother and wife. She was a loving, attentive, and a wonderful mom to Gina and Tracy.
In the late 60’s, Frank and Margaret had life-changing experiences after they joined Unity Church. They served the church as Licensed Unity Teachers. In 1984, they were ordained as Unity ministers through Unity School in Missouri. Margaret and Frank were co-ministers at Unity Church of Christianity in Dallas on Greenville Ave. for 29 years and Unity Church of Christianity in Irving, TX for 17 years.
Margaret was a writer, having 25 articles published in Unity Magazine. Her book “Laws of Love” published in 1979, was a best seller--being reprinted four times. The reviewer wrote of her book, “This book helps you to know that the love of God is showered upon you; that you need only receive it and act upon it to have a happier, more love-filled life.” Her second book was “How to Make a Miracle” published in 2013. She also wrote and recorded three audio meditation albums.
Genealogy was her hobby and she and Frank would often do research during their travels. Margaret’s memberships included Gen. Levi Casey Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Magna Carta Dames, Crown of Emperor Charlemagne, Robert the Bruce Society, and Colonial Dames of the XVII Century.
Margaret could also play a mean hand of bridge.
Margaret showered love on all and prayed for everyone everywhere. She was, and is, a light that blesses the world.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 68 years Rev. Frank H. Pounders, daughter Gina Pounders Henderson (James), son Tracy Pounders (Marcia) and grandchildren James Henderson, Matthew Henderson (Abigail), Elizabeth Pounders Wims (Caleb), Alexander Pounders (Kiersten), and great-grand-son Lucas Pounders.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and half-siblings: Syble Jennings, Troy Jennings, (Joseph) Foree Jennings, Lucille Jennings Hamil and Edith Jennings Harrison,
