Margaret Kathryn "Kitty" Weeks' Obituary
Margaret Kathryn “Kitty’ Weeks, a beloved and key figure in the Memphis, Tennessee fashion scene, widely known for her two stores, The Snooty Fox and The Dandi-Lion, died Tuesday, May 24, in Dallas, where she and her husband, Morris, had moved two months before. Kitty was born May 11, 1921, in Kingston, GA. In 1947, she moved to Memphis, TN, to be a private investigator with the William T. Griffin Detective Agency; once there, she also opened a gift shop. Two years later she married Morris Weeks, whom she’d met on a blind date, and by the 1951 arrival of their first daughter, Kathy, she had left inventigations and closed the gift shop. Her children grew up with memories of their mother’s volunteer work with the Duration Club and Les Passees, her tenure as president of the Laurelwood Garden Club, and her popular dress shops. Morris served at the Chapman Chemical Company, as Executive Vice President. Kitty and Morris were married for 62 years and were members of Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Kitty was industrious, loving, giving, fun, extremely fond of travel and her birthday club friends — and unforgettable. Besides her husband, Morris, she is survived by her daughter Kathy Weeks Peel and husband, Bill, of Dallas, and their children John (Waco), Joel (Waco), and James (Dallas); and Marsha Weeks Chay and husband, Dr. Fred Chay, of Scottsdale, AZ, and their children, Jennifer Clayton (Edmond, OK) and John Chay(Ft. Worth, TX). The Peels and Chays will have a family service in Dallas and a memorial service in Memphis, date to be announced. in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the LeTourneau Center for Faith and Work (www.letu.edu/give) or Grace Line Ministry (www.graceline.net). Private interment service will be at DFW National Cemetery at a later date.
