Margaret McLaurin Loftin's Obituary
Margaret McLaurin Loftin, a longtime Richardson resident, died peacefully on November 18, 2019. She is survived by her son Robert Loftin, Jr. and daughter-in-law Toni Loftin (Richardson, TX), sister Ann McLaurin Simpson (Shreveport, LA), brother John C. McLaurin, III and wife Arrie (Shreveport, LA), brother-in-law, Don Douglass (Greensboro, NC), brother-in-law Bill Loftin (Oxford, AL), and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ferguson Loftin Sr., her parents J.C. McLaurin and Margaret Pattison McLaurin, her sister, Patricia McLaurin Douglass, and special aunt, Elizabeth Pattison Whitehurst.Margaret was born on December 12, 1936, in Mansfield, Louisiana. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1955, attended Centenary College in Shreveport before transferring to Louisiana State University to earn her bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She later earned a master’s degree in math education from the University of Texas at Dallas. During her 24-year career as a math teacher, Margaret influenced young lives at Richardson High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Richardson for 50 years and was especially close to her friends in Ruth Circle and her Sunday school class, the Apostles. Reflecting her generous spirit, Margaret volunteered for many years at Richardson Methodist Hospital, where her activities included making her world-famous baby blankets. In retirement, Margaret most loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband, Bob, around the US. Their favorite destinations were New York City and San Francisco. Bob Jr. and Toni wish to thank the loving staff at the Auberge at Plano (formerly Silverado) Memory Care and Silverado Hospice of Dallas for their unparalleled kindness, grace, and compassion. Thank you for giving Margaret a wonderful home and community for the last three years. We also thank Dr. Kuldeep Singh, her physician, for his thoughtful and excellent care.A visitation for family and friends will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Sunday, November 24th from 3 PM to 5 PM (13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX). A memorial will be held on Monday, November 25th at 3 PM at First United Methodist Church of Richardson (502 N Central Expwy, Richardson, TX 75080). In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to First United Methodist Church of Richardson (fumcr.com) for their caring ministries fund, or the charity of your choice.
