Margaret "Peggy" Lumpkin's Obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Lumpkin was born September 15, 1920, and died peacefully in hospice care at Colonial Lodge Assisted Living, Terrell, on December 27, 2015. Born in Hearne, Texas, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in music and math from the University of Texas. There she met her future husband, Joseph Howard “Tony” Lumpkin. She and Tony established a home in Richardson, Texas, and were married until his death in 1996. Aside from a brief period in real estate, she embraced the role of homemaker and mother for most of her young adult life. Margaret was a vivacious beauty. Her sparkling eyes charmed. She loved to dance, entertain, and became quite a handy woman. She could roof a house and prepare a sumptuous dinner party that evening, wearing a beautiful gown she made herself. She wrote poetry and gave dramatic book reviews. Moving to Terrell seven years ago, Margaret became a vital member of the Colonial Lodge Assisted Living community. She loved her life there and felt happily secure in the midst of staff and residents’ love of her. She is survived by her son Marty and wife Janet of Terrell, and son Terry of Houston. Her grandson Jeremy and wife Julie and great-granddaughters Eva and Audrey of Houston also honor her memory. A private graveside service will be held at Restland Memorial Park.
