Margaret A. Luttrell's Obituary
Margaret Cheatham Luttrell passed away on May 16, 2012, at the age of 95 in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Krum, Texas, on May 14, 1917, to Elizabeth Hasselbach and Jim Ruel Cheatham. She graduated from North Dallas High School, Daughton’s Business College, and received a Certificate of Completion of Seminar for Women Executives in 1969 from S.M.U. On June 18, 1938, she married George H. Luttrell, Sr., who served in the Pacific area for 3 years during WWII. Margaret was a member of the Friends of Fair Park, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Executive Secretaries of Dallas where she was honored with a flight on the Goodyear Blimp. She was Secretary to the President of Union Bankers Insurance Company for 22 years and retired as Assistant Corporate Secretary for the Company. She served as Editor of Union Bankers’ monthly publication, “The Blue Eagle.” Margaret was a member of the First United Lutheran Church in Dallas for over 85 years. She was an active member of the White Rock Republicans Club for many years, working to support numerous Republican candidates. She was also a member of the Casa View Library and the NDHS Alumni Association. In 1986 with Mayor Evans as Committee Chairman, Margaret helped organize the 50-year Reunion of the 1936 Centennial Fair Park Workers which displayed the young workers at the Centennial. Recently, along with other outstanding women, Margaret was named as an honoree of S.M.U. ‘s “Remember the Ladies!” where her name appears on a plaque at the S.M.U. DeGolyer Library which celebrates the “Archives of Women of the Southwest.” Margaret is survived by her son, Dr. Howard Luttrell and wife Judy; her daughter, Pamela Luttrell and husband Bill Flynn; her beloved grandchildren: Andrea Luttrell Keeth and husband Randy Keeth, and Aaron Flynn; her great-grandson Townes Keeth, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be fondly remembered for her keen wit, graciousness, sense of adventure, storytelling, frankness, determination, partiality for all things spicy, love of family, and loyalty to the great state of Texas. Visitation is form 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Restland Abbey Chapel, Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
