Margaret Katherine Mathews' Obituary
Margaret Mathews arrived in Heaven on February 29, 2016. She received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord as a young girl. Her mother, Maggie, was widowed at an early age and Margaret, along with her brother, James, struggled as their mother took in washing from neighbors to support the family. At 12 years of age, the family moved from the country (Fairlee, Texas) to the Love Field area of Dallas. Margaret worked in a hosiery mill and a bakery. She attended Dallas Technical School, and soon after, married (1936) Charlie, a friend in the neighborhood. Together they participated in a new church plant, North Temple Baptist Church; in the 1950’s they moved to north Dallas where they were charter members of Royal Haven Baptist Church. Charlie ascended to Director of Purchasing, Braniff Airways; Margaret, worked as Executive Secretary for Shahan Painting and F. M. Lewis Companies. Charlie served as a Music Director for numerous churches throughout the area; Margaret, a gifted Sunday School teacher, served for over 75 years. As a Sunday School teacher, Margaret was not only an excellent Bible teacher but also a caregiver for those in her classes. She nurtured her own children in the Word of God (Bible) and also encouraged her grandchildren and families to acknowledge Jesus Christ in their daily living. Margaret is survived by children; Charles Harold and wife, Kay (NC)-Kathy Ann, Dallas-and Kenneth Alan and wife, Dea (AL). Margaret is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
