Margaret (Peggy) Kaylor Holler Fontana's Obituary
Peggy Fontana passed away peacefully at Faith Presbyterian Hospice of Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Peggy was born on July 29, 1938 to Gordon and Margaret Holler and spent her early life in Charlotte, North Carolina. Peggy graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte in 1959 as a Registered Nurse with a specialization in orthopedics. It was during her time working as a nurse in Charlotte that she met her future husband, Don Fontana. Her long professional career was spent primarily in orthopedic nursing where she made a difference in the lives of her patients while making many friends along the way. Peggy also served as a registered nurse in the Air National Guard from 1960-1969 and achieved the rank of Captain, the highest ranked status for a female at that time.
Peggy and Don, her husband of 56 years lived many years in Charlotte before moving to Champagne, Illinois and later, Plano, Texas, where they raised their children – their greatest joy. Peggy was a devoted mother to her children and their families. Throughout her life, Peggy was an active church member involved in many ministries in the Lutheran churches that she attended. Peggy was a very talented cook and homemaker. Her cakes and pies were always coveted at the church bazaars and her fruitcake cookies were legendary. Peggy was loving, honest, faithful and loyal. She fought valiantly during a long illness and finished the race while keeping the faith.
Peggy is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Donald Fontana and 2 children; a daughter, Donna Fontana Russell (Jammy) and a son, Tony Fontana (Sabra Wright); grandchildren – Margaret Rivers (Hunter) of Van, TX; Justin Russell of Farmersville, TX; Charles Russell of Arlington, TX; Ally Fontana Dockery (Stacen); Roderick Fontana; Matthew Taylor; 6 great grandchildren – Elizabeth and Charlotte Rivers of Van, TX; Jayden, Quinten, Elianna and Angel Fontana; 2 sisters, Glenda Holler and Dixie Pinson of North Carolina.
