Margaret Jean Polvi's Obituary
Margaret Jean Polvi, 91, was called Home to meet with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 4, 2021. She was born in Hopewell, Oregon to Margaret & Gus Janzen on December 20, 1929.
After growing up in the small farming community near Portland, Margaret married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, George Polvi, on August 29, 1948. While George earned his degree from Oregon State University, Margaret was a bank teller during their early years of marriage. Margaret and George moved to Dallas, Texas in the mid 50’s where she settled the family while George started his career in the irrigation business and, subsequently, at New York Life as a life insurance salesman. While rearing their three children, Margaret worked as the office manager for George’s practice as well as an active member of Northlake Baptist Church. Margaret continued her work until retirement at age 84 in 2015. While George was the face of the business, it was Margaret that brought the disciplined focus to keep the business headed in the right direction.
Margaret was devoted to her family and had a love of poetry, roses, family traditions, music and cooking. She loved hosting the whole family over the holidays and ensured everyone recognized the true meaning of Christmas first and foremost. She loved to travel especially to the Canadian Rockies to collect rocks, observe Big Horn Sheep and enjoy God’s majesty in the glaciers between Banff and Jasper. Margaret became a Christian at 12 years of age at the Hopewell Community Church. In addition to being a member of Northlake Baptist Church, later in life became a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas. She spent her last few years at The Tradition Assisted Living where they provided extraordinary care for both she and George.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George Edward Polvi of Dallas. Margaret is survived by her son, Mark Anthony Polvi and wife, Wendy; her daughter, Margaret Cherie Thompson; and daughter, Lisa Anne Long and husband, Douglas. Margaret is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jonathan Long, Winston Polvi, Hunter Polvi, Gracie Smith and Aspen VanHooser as well as their individual spouses. In addition, Margaret is survived by her sister June Ann Kirkwood while preceded in death by brothers Bob and Clifford, sisters Alice, Renie, and Doris, as well as son-in-law Michael Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Friday, February 19 with viewing at 1pm at the Restland Abbey Chapel with burial immediately following with Dr. Jim Wofford presiding.
