Margaret M. Powell's Obituary
Powell, Margaret, was born June 27, 1923, in rural Georgia. Margaret Geneva McRae was destined to make a difference. She was valedictorian of her graduating class and went on to business school in Athens, Georgia where she excelled. She returned home where she worked in an office until she met Kinney Powell, a young mand recently home fromt he second World War. The fell in love and were married in 1945. His work required the young couple to move to Memphis, TN where her life “on the move” was about to begin. But first their daughter was born in 1947. For the next several years, rasing her daughter was “Job number one”. Margaret and her family had to put down roots in many places sincer her husband was in a national sales wihich required relocating every 2-3 years. Finally, they were able to settle in Dallas when her husband started a new enterprise for his current employer. Dallas was their home for over 35 years. During those years, Margaret was involved in church as the leader of a social group for the older women. She also volunteered and served as a president for the Dallas Area Parkisonism Society…a group which provided physical, speech therapy and support groups for the caregivers. This was Margaret’s passion since her husband had be diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1975. They worked together, as volunteers, until his death in 1989. Margaret continued to volunteer and servie on the board until her health forces her to move to Missouri to be with her daughter. Once in Missouri, the need to volunteer was still in her blood, so she became a “pink lady” and was at Crystal Oaks Assisted Living Facility until her stroke in 2002. So, as the Mother of one, grandmother of 2, and great-grandmother of one, Margaret Powell is an inspiration to her family and to all who know her for her grace and courage in trying times. (Mimi went to be with Jesus on Sunday, January 10, 2010. She will be missed but we know she is now at peace and her suffering has ended.)
