Margaret Mary Riter's Obituary
Margaret was born on the family farm in Northeast Nebraska on a hot July 28th 1924. She attended a one room country school and then on to St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill Nebraska. She joined the Army in 1945 after her brother Pat was killed in the South Pacific, but did not serve as the war ended prior to her finishing her nursing degree. Margaret then received her nursing degree from St. Mary’s in Rochester, Minnesota and taught nursing at Creighton University. Margaret married Gordon Riter on November 22nd 1952 and started her family. After stops in Illinois and Kansas they moved the family to Texas in 1964 as Gordon worked for Texas Instruments until his retirement. Margaret worked at Doctor’s Hospital in Dallas for many years before retiring in 1984. She loved travelling with family and friends after retiring. She is preceded in death by her husband Gordon and their oldest son, James. Margaret is survived by her four sons, George of Austin, TX, Joseph of Taos, NM, Jeffrey of Richardson, TX, and Gary and his wife Katherine of Santa Barbara, CA; five grandchildren, Celeste and husband Corbin, Amber, Matt and wife Lauren, Melissa, and Kati; three great-grandchildren, Ryder, Logan, and Reese; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. Viewing will be held on June 7th at 6pm with a Rosary starting at 7pm at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson, TX, where Margaret was a founding member, on June 8th at 1:30pm with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park. Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She was a very kind and loving person to all and is now at peace.
