Margie Rae Barber's Obituary
Margie Rae Barber passed from her earthly bondage to her heavenly home on July 18, 2020, at age 79. She dearly loved her family and friends, including the many associates of Juliette Fowler Communities where she received loving care. She was comforted at the end by Penn and Chandler Barber, her husband and son. She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Raymond Welty and by her beloved younger sister, Raynese Woody.
Margie was born November 24, 1940, in Uvalde, Texas. As a child, Margie grew up on the glorious 33,000-acre Kincaid Ranch in southwest Texas. At the age of 10, Margie nurtured and raised a young abandoned fawn, whom she named Betsy. Dawning a red bandana to keep her safe from hunters, they roamed and explored the compound for almost 10 years together. As a result, Margie had a lifelong passion for animals and life in the country.
Margie attended Uvalde High School and married her high school sweetheart, E. P. (Penn) Barber. Penn and Margie were faithfully married for 60 years in Dallas.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Margie was a seamstress, country and western and ballroom dancer, and she loved investigating and connecting the genealogical dots of her family roots throughout Texas. Embedded in her soul lived an unwavering faith in Jesus, which she shared with those around her.
Survivors include Penn, Chandler, Erin and Lilly Barber, many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws; including Gary and Marlo Woody of McKinney, Morgan Autrey of Austin, Wade and Jason Smith of Houston, Clay and Sarah Rivette of Houston and Melanie Naylor and Melissa Opio of Fredricksburg, Texas.
The Barber family wants to specifically thank the network of Juliette Fowler associates who made Margie – and Margie’s family – feel like she was their only resident. The Barbers would especially like to thank Tina Harris and Soul Chikopa who delivered unwavering support and love to the end. In memory of Margie, donations may be made to www.fowlercommunities.org.
Respectfully, the family has planned a family-only funeral service on July 28, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
