Margie Roe's Obituary
“Our grief is as individual as our lives." — Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margie Davis Austin Roe. She passed peacefully at The Cottages in Frisco TX on Sunday February 12, 2023 at the age of 87. Alzheimer’s Disease may have robbed her of her memories, but never her grace, dignity and love of life.
Margie had an amazing life. She was from a small town in North Carolina, married young, becoming a military wife and raised 3 children. She was involved in her church and the Girl Scouting community, while continually advancing her education. At the height of her career, she was CEO and President of Communicators Federal Credit Union and interviewed by the Wall Street Journal regarding Credit Union fields of membership. She was a mentor and example of career success to many. She had a great love for traveling, expanding her horizons, never meeting a stranger. There was a life time of dancing, first as a ballerina in her childhood, teaching Darlene to Cha Cha in the kitchen when she was 7, in later years meeting her second husband square dancing and dancing at every opportunity at the Cottages. Her thirst for family history was insatiable leading her into a study of genealogy and to write a book titled ‘Our Roots Run Deep’ that was shared with the members of her family and the library in her home county. Her daughter Vivian has taken up the mantle and continues to update family history as events occur. Attending Theatre productions and interacting with people is strongly believed by her daughters to have helped delay the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s Disease. For several years ‘A Memory Lane Tea At The Cottages’ was held in her honor and raised funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. A special Thank You to the staff at The Cottages for the wonderful care for the last 7 years.
Margie was predeceased by her father Cecil Davis, her mother Ruby Lee Nobles Davis, her brother Roger Davis and her sister Mildred Davis Britt.
From her first marriage she was predeceased by her husband Wm David Austin Sr, her son Wm David (Chip) Austin Jr and survived by her daughters Darlene Austin Owens (David) and Vivian Austin Reed (David), her grandson Joseph Austin Combs (Trish) and great-granddaughters Cassandra Miller and Allison Combs. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law Lottie Davis, nephews Gerald Davis and Eric Davis, nieces Carol Austin Meldon, Patricia Austin Crouch and, daughter by heart, Linda Share.
From her second marriage she was predeceased by her husband Glenn Roe and her step-son Bruce Roe. She is survived by her step-daughters Barbara Roe Greenlee (Tim) and Sally Roe Saenz (Gabe) and granddaughters Gloria Saenz, Sydney Saenz, Natalie (Sunny) Saenz, Samantha Raffman Tams, Miranda Raffman and grandson Dale Roe.
She was loved by many and her friends are too numerous to name but we hope they know how much they were all loved and appreciated.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10th and her ashes will be interred in a memorial bench at Restland Cemetery with those of her late husband Glenn Roe.
