Maria James Chantly's Obituary
Maria James Chantly, Born October 10, 1950 in Dallas, Texas and passed away September 22, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. Maria was preceded in death by her parents James N. and Vasso Chantly, and brothers Nicholas and Chris Chantly. She is survived by her sister Pauline Koinis (Theodore), niece Anastasia Milanese (Matthew), nephew James Koinis (Valerie), Artemis and Michael, nephew Nicholas Koinis (Kristina), and several cousins both here and in Greece.
Maria graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with Bachelors degree in Journalism. She was an active member at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where she volunteered at the Greek Festival for decades. For over 40 years she actively participated in the Daughters of Penelope Greek philanthropic organization, holding several different offices.
She adored her niece and nephews and enjoyed bragging on them and would do anything for them. Her great niece and nephew brought smiles to her face.
Maria was an avid reader and had collected enough books to create her own library. She was a sentimental person and found pleasure spending time with friends and travelling when she was able.
Family will receive friends on Monday, September 27, 2021 starting at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on 13555 Hillcrest Road followed by the Trisagion and Funeral service at 11:00 AM, Fr. Mark Pakes officiating.
The family wishes to thank the pallbearers: Tom Fox, John Fox, James Koinis, Nicholas Koinis, Nick Dixie, Kim Nikolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ecclesiastical fund at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Rd., Dallas, TX 75240.
