Maria del Refugio Gonzalez was born in El Ranchito, Texas on December 21, 1934. She peacefully passed away on January 17, 2026.
Her parents were (+)Francisco Garcia, of San Antonio, Texas, and (+)Inez Perez of El Ranchito, Texas.
She married (+)Eliseo Gonzalez on June 11, 1954. They had 6 children, Eliseo Jr., (+)Mario Rene, Samuel, Tomas Enrique, Esteban and Norma Ruth, all born in Brownsville, Texas. She has 18 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Maria, or Cuca as she was known by most, graduated Brownsville High School in 1955. She began her journey to obtain her teaching degree at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, where she graduated with her Associate’s Degree in 1975. She continued her education and graduated from Pan American University in Brownsville, in 1976, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. In 1980, Cuca gained her Master’s Degree from Southern Methodist University, in Dallas.
She was an educator for 35 years. She began teaching at Brownsville ISD, and in 2000, she retired from Dallas ISD. Children in Kindergarten, First, Second and Third grades were blessed to have her as their teacher.
Above all else, Maria was a loyal and dedicated daughter to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
