Maria Theresa Jimenez Estrello's Obituary
Mrs. Maria Theresa Jimenez Estrello died on November 22nd in Dallas, Texas at the age of 83. Maria is survived by her six children, Linda, Richard, Reuben, Mary Ann, Victor and James. She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Estrello Jr.; her sons Jesse and John Estrello; and grandson Robert Flores Jr. Maria was born on April 9, 1933 in Thomaston, Texas to Braulio and Leonora Jimenez. She married Victor, on December 13, 1948 and spent her first four years of marriage living with her in-laws. Their first three children were born during this time. Maria and Victor then moved to their own farm and had their other five children. She was a wonderful wife and mother, an excellent cook and homemaker. She had a large garden and fruit trees which the family worked on together. She helped with farm animals after they were born. She taught her children how much Jesus Christ loved them and how to pray to the Holy Spirit. When the Gulf storms would come, she would have the family go to the front porch. She would have the family kneel and pray the rosary so that her husband’s crop would be spared from damages. Weeks later after the mass the farming neighbors would ask what he was doing different that his crops weren’t flooded. He would respond that they had prayed the rosary as a family to help the crops. In 1967 the family moved to Dallas and Maria had to learn to adapt to big city life. She worked at Haggar for five years but she was a homemaker at heart. Her friends loved her because she always treated them like family. She introduced them and they fell in love with Ganado style Tex-Mex food. During this time she also welcomed daughters-in-laws and son-in-laws into the family. Her family has grown to twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Maria loved children and became a wonderful babysitter to many neighborhood children. They all consider her their grandmother too. Maria’s strong faith and positive attitude left a great example to her family, friends and especially her church family. She served at Cathedral in different capacities like St. Vincent Paul society, Guadalupanas, Ancianos group and Eucharistic Minister. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and enjoyed her salsa and chips. She will be greatly missed by everyone and who know that she is with God and her loved ones that preceded her. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2016 with a rosary starting at 7:00 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe located at 2215 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX 75201. Mass time is pending. Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 is honored to be entrusted by this family with all arrangements.
