Maria Araujo Richards, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 22, 2026.
Maria was born on February 15, 1954, in São Luís, Brazil, to Domingos Costa Mourão and Maria Araújo Mourão. While living in Rio de Janeiro, she met the love of her life, Robert Richards. They married in Dallas, Texas, in 1977 and built a life together spanning nearly fifty years.
After making Texas her home, Maria built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. She started her career working for Springridge Elementary and spent much of her professional career with Rockwell International and Alcatel. She also possessed an entrepreneurial and inventive spirit that inspired those around her.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the quiet strength she demonstrated throughout her life.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Domingos Costa Mourão and Maria Araújo Mourão, and her sister, Hilda Araújo Costa.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Richards; her daughters, Melissa Richards and Jacqueline Richards Mason; her grandsons, Dylan Richards and Colin Mason; her sister, Raimunda Eudízia Araújo dos Santos; and her brother, José Araújo Costa Mourão.
Maria’s love and memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
