Marie Carmela Hoffman's Obituary
Marie Carmela Hoffman, age (94) passed away 27, January 2022. She was a week shy of her 95th birthday. Marie was born in New Rochelle, NY on February 4, 1927. She was preceded in death by her loving parent’s father, Anthony Frank Ritacco, and her mother Carmela Theresa Ritacco (Cittadino).
Marie graduated from New Rochelle High School. Upon graduation Marie went to work for Standard Vacuum Oil Company as a key punch operator. When Marie retired to be a full-time mom she volunteered for the association for intellectual disabilities for children (ARC) and supported Catholic charities. Marie raised four wonderful children, eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Marie was a devout catholic and an amazing cook due to her Italian heritage and mother. Her parents were both born in Italy and immigrated to New York through Ellis Island. She was very product of that heritage and always told us as kids we were 100% Italian.
Through the years Marie was an avid tennis player, skier, work out enthusiast and ice hockey fan. She continued working out till she was in her early 90’s. In the early years she raised her family in West Nyack, New York with a summer home in Stowe, Vermont. In 1978 she moved to Dallas, Texas and lived out the rest of her adult life. In 1983, she started a second career and became a licensed real estate agent and mortgage broker.
Marie was not your ordinary mom and grandmother. She did not want to be referred to as grandma, so her grandchildren just lovingly referred to her as Ria (Short for Grandma Marie). She taught her family about determination, individuality and fighting for your dreams. She loved holidays and traditions many of which have been passed down through the generations. All her children and some grandchildren vie for the right to say they make her spaghetti sauce the best. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. For those that knew Marie you will understand why we had to make sure she was not sitting next to the other parents. Her enthusiasm and candor are what made Ria, Ria.
She was an amazing force, and we were convinced she would outlive all of us. She left memories everywhere she went, and she will be missed and talked about for years to come. And her famous homemade manicotti, chicken parmigiana, spaghetti sauce, cheesecake, pies and many other items will be handed down for generations to come, along with all the stories.
Marie was survived by her children Linda Muysson (Oscar), Sandra Coleman (Rusty), Jeffrey Hoffman (Sue), and Keith Hoffman; grandchildren, Kirsten Adams (Paul Midgen), Chad Adams (Alison), Lauren Coleman (Kalli), Blake Coleman (Jordan), Brooke Coleman, Jeff Coleman (Emily), Kevin Coleman (Melissa), Brent Hoffman, Adelaide Hoffman, Marcella Muysson, Ali Muysson; great grandchildren, Lark Midgen, William Adams, Charlie Adams, Reese Adams, Charlie Coleman, Carson Coleman, Everett Coleman, Hallie Coleman, Linden Coleman; her siblings brother Frank Ritacco and sister Carmela Bottles and their children.
A mother holds their child’s hands for a while. Their hearts forever.
