Marie C. Lewis' Obituary
The start and end dates of one life are the beginning of one’s story, but it’s the dash between the dates that represent her journey, one well lived.
Marie was born in Brooklyn, New York to Edward Marco Dawson and Lillian (Horowitz) Furino. Her father worked in vaudeville and her mother was a professional dancer, thus requiring Marie to help around the house at a young age and also caring for her two older brothers, Mickey and Frankie.
She met her husband-to-be, Robert Lewis, when his Navy ship docked in NYC, prompting an introduction from a close friend. The two married on January 6, 1950 in New York. She was 6 weeks older than “Louie” and he would regularly tease her of this until his passing on September 3, 2007.
Together, Marie and Louie welcomed two children. First, Debbie Kummer, now of McKinney, Texas, and then Glen Lewis, now of Willowick, Ohio. Marie was a stay-at-home Mom until Debbie reached high school. Her career led her to Sears, Roebuck, & Co in HR. She was very proud of her job, as it provided the ability to send her children to college - a dream that neither she nor Louie were able to attain for themselves.
Her children eventually would marry and move away. Glen married Stephanie on August 5th, a date now even more important within the family. Grandchildren arrived, married, and had kids of their own - Erik (Nicole Niederhauser) Galias of Wylie, Texas, with great-granddaughter Rowyn, and a baby boy on the way, Bryce (Erendira) Galias of Princeton, Texas, and Brittany (Greg) Lewis-Moenich of Bath Township, Ohio, with great-grandson Owen Bucher. The love Marie had for her grandchildren and great grandchildren alike was immense. They provided her with such joy. There was a sparkle in her eyes in each and every visit with them and in conversation about them with others.
Please join the family on Monday, August 18th for visitation at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 19th at Carrollton Nazarene Church at 10am (1529 East Hebron Parkway, Carrollton, Texas 75010); interment following at Serenity Garden of Restland Memorial Park.
Marie loved to cook and attend holiday dinners with her family, both at her own home and then at her children’s and grandchildren’s homes. To continue this blessing, donations may be made in her name to the North Texas Food Bank
