Marie Scott Miegel's Obituary
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Marie Scott Miegel passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 and joined her husband of 64 years, William Robert Miegel, Sr. A gracious, loving and beautiful lady with a wonderful sense of humor and a twinkle in her eye, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Marie was born in Dallas on May 8, 1927 to Preston Rose Scott and Marie Davis Scott. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Marie attended Southern Methodist University where she met her best friend and husband William Miegel. After graduating from SMU, she and Bill always called Dallas home. They enjoyed traveling, boating and socializing with their friends at Lakewood Country Club, Northwood Country Club, Horseshoe Bay and Hidden Hill at Lake Dallas. Their happiest years were spent at Hidden Hill, watching their children thrive in the water and survive bee stings, poison ivy, fish hooks and mistakenly-launched fireworks. An avid fisherwoman, Marie could out-fish anyone in her family. Marie was a current member of the Mary K. Craig Class and, when energy allowed, she enjoyed playing bridge. Fiercely proud of her Texas heritage, Marie’s great-grandfather, William Thomas Scott, befriended Sam Houston and worked in liaison with the Texas independence movement. Marie is survived by her loving family members: her son William Miegel, Jr and wife, Cynthia; daughter, Elizabeth Marie Miegel; granddaughter, Lauren Miegel Burris and husband, Gregory; She is also survived by her great-grandson, Bryant Burris. Survivors also include several nieces and nephews. Graveside services, Saturday, June 11, 2011, 10 am, Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. Dr. Robert Waite officiating.
