Marilyn Krebs Culwell's Obituary
Marilyn Krebs Culwell passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. She was 88 years old.
Born on Christmas Day in 1936, Marilyn was the cherished daughter of Leo Julius Krebs and Elna Christianson Krebs. She grew up in Dallas, Texas, and graduated with honors from Woodrow Wilson High School. A gifted student, Marilyn received a full scholarship from the A. Harris & Company to attend Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Marilyn was a proud member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
It was at SMU where Marilyn met the love of her life, Cully Culwell. The two were married on July 9, 1955, beginning a beautiful partnership that would last a lifetime. For the next two decades, Marilyn dedicated herself to raising their two children, Mike and Karen, while Cully managed the family clothing business.
Once their children were grown, Marilyn and Cully embarked on a life of travel and adventure together. Over the years, they visited 73 countries, embracing the cultures, history, and people they encountered along the way. Despite their global adventures, Marilyn’s heart remained tied to their treasured home in Colorado and their boat in the Bahamas. Of all her pursuits, traveling with Cully remained her greatest joy.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cully Culwell. She is survived by her son, Mike Culwell and his wife Adrianne, her daughter Karen Barnett, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A private ceremony will be held to lay Marilyn to rest beside Cully, where their love story continues.
Marilyn's warmth, grace, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
