Marilyn McVeigh Davis' Obituary
went home to be with her Heavenly Father on September 17, 2007, after many years struggling with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born on March 20, 1929, in Dallas, the first child of William Moss McVeigh, Jr. and Lorena Henderson McVeigh. A life-long member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, she graduated from Highland Park High School. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority at both Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas, from which she graduated. She returned to Dallas after graduation and met her future husband, Sid Davis, in the HPPC singles’ class. They were married on December 28, 1951, and enjoyed 48 years together until Sid’s death in 2000. She was also predeceased by her brother Bill. Marilyn is survived by her three children, Lynn, Sid, Jr. (and wife Linda), and Jenny (and husband Mike Moore). The happiest of times in her life were those spent with her five grandchildren, Kitty, Robin and Timothy Davis and Daniel and Lindsay Moore. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Joyce Davis (and husband Joe) and Martha Fosdick (and husband Jim), and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She is also survived by close friends and caregivers Jasonta “Jazz” MaCarthy, Mariama Daboh, and Ella Johnson. The family is especially grateful for the friendship, love and care shown by Jazz during the final years of Marilyn’s life. Marilyn was always involved in education – of her children and others. She was a Sunday School teacher at HPPC for many years. After raising her three children, Marilyn went back to school to obtain a teaching certificate and began a teaching career in the Dallas public schools. She taught elementary school in West Dallas where loved and befriended a generation of children. After retirement, she worked as a suicide prevention volunteer at Contact and in the International Students Ministry at HPPC. She was also a faithful member of Discussion Group C until her health no longer permitted her attendance. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and word games. She only saw the best in everyone she met. In her later years, Marilyn was a resident of the assisted living unit at Signature Pointe and the nursing unit of Presbyterian Village North, where her sweet smile and caring spirit were a blessing to all who came into contact with her. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Signature Pointe and Presbyterian Village North for their assistance in Marilyn’s care.
