Marion Clifford Herd, Jr's Obituary
Marion Clifford Herd, Jr., 81, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016. A memorial service will be held on July 17, 2016, at 3:00 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lakeland. Burial will be at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, TX. Arrangements are being handled by Lakeland Funeral Home of Lakeland, and Restland Funeral Home of Dallas, TX Marion was born in Dallas, Texas, on April 29, 1935. After graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force serving for 8 years. He received the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Following his time in the military, he joined Carrier Corporation in Dallas and worked as a pipe fitter for 40 years until retirement. He was a member of the Plumber & Steamfitters Local 100 of Dallas, TX. Marion held an Advanced Amateur Radio License, and enjoyed his ham radio, computers, and tracking his family’s ancestry. Marion is survived by his wife, Janice J. (Stotz) Herd; three step-children, Donna (Carl) Streeter of Ord, NE, Denise (Dave) Haupt of Kearney, NE, Darnell (Pam) Boysen of Grand Island, NE, and a son, Michael Shawn Herd of Dallas, TX; 10 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers Bobby L. Herd and David W. Herd and their families. Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Clifford Herd, Sr. and Mary Francis (Cheney) Herd, and two brothers Johnny E. Herd and Marvin R. Herd. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family of Marion wishes to thank the Lakeland VITAS Hospice for their care during Marion’s final days.
