Mitchell, Marion Allen May 15, 1925 – April 7, 2009 Service: Saturday, April 11, 2009 11:00 AM Hamilton Park United Methodist Church ll881 Schroeder Road Dallas, Texas 75243. Rev. Harold G. Dangerfield, Senior Pastor Rev. Lucretia Facen, Associate Pastor, Officiating. Marion Allen Mitchell passed from this life April 7, 2009 after a recent illness. He was born the third of seven children on May 15, 1925 in Wheelock, Robertson County, Texas to the union of Elijah Mitchell and Amanda Dunn Mitchell. Siblings Elijah Mitchell, Jr., Samuel Mitchell, Vera Mitchell-Phillips, and Esterline Mitchell-Baldwin preceded him in death. His two surviving siblings are Benjamin Mitchell and Estelle Mitchell-Adams both of Dallas, Texas. He attended elementary school in Wheelock, Texas and Kemp High School in Brazos County, Texas. He is survived by his life-long sixty-six year love Irene Shields Mitchell whom he married on May 25, 1943. Born to that union were their two caring children, Constance Mitchell-Sharpe and Fred Mitchell, Sr. The Mitchells have three grandchildren: Regina Mitchell-Gillstrap, Marilyn Mitchell-Pope and Fred Mitchell, Jr. Carrying on that legacy of love are two great-grand daughters Danielle Pope and Gina Pope all of Dallas, Texas. Mr. Mitchell professed his faith at an early age and united with the New Hope Baptist Church, Wheelock, Texas. Upon moving to Dallas, he and his family united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in South Dallas. As time passed, they moved to the Hamilton Park Community and united with First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park. On January 22, 1961 under the pastorate of Reverend Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr., he transferred his membership to Hamilton Park Methodist Church. He was a faithful and dutiful member, serving on the Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee, the Building Committee, and Trustee Board. He was a devoted church member who supported the church with his tithes, time and service. For many years, he also extended and exhibited his servant leadership by providing the maintenance for the Church Day Care Program vehicles. In addition, he was an active member in the Hamilton Park Social Club and the Civic League, a life member of the NAACP, the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Dallas African-American Museum.When Marion Mitchell arrived in the Dallas area, a number of businesses employed him, including Edmar Ford Dealership, Acme Brick Company and Braniff Airways. He transitioned from those enterprises into the commercial transportation business. He developed, owned and operated a family trucking business, Mitchell Mail Service, and owned an AMOCO franchise truck maintenance and service terminal. Both companies were tendered excellent ratings by Dunn and Bradstreet and the Small Business Administration. His Company transported mail over the highways for United States Mail Service for more than twenty-five years. Additionally, for many years, he purchased and leased trailers to the postal service throughout the Dallas Metro Area.As a member of United States Mail Service, Mr. Mitchell attended State Mail Conventions and was elected a delegate to the National Mail Convention, operated by the National Mail Carriers Convention, Washington, DC. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association, and a stellar four-year term as the Vice President of the National Star Route Mail Contractors Association Headquarters, Washington, DC.
