Marjorie Lois Barnes, age 92, of Royse City, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025. Born on July 24, 1933, in Cowgill, Missouri, Marjorie was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth “Bessie” and James B. “Bert” King.
On July 31, 1953, she married the love of her life, Hix W. Barnes. Together, they built a life rooted in compassion, family, and service. Marjorie will be remembered most for her unwavering dedication to animal rescue. Throughout her life, she fostered countless dogs and many cats, offering them love, safety, and a home when they needed it most.
Her nurturing spirit extended to her garden, where she cultivated beauty and nourishment year-round. Whether it was vibrant flowers or homegrown tomatoes, squash, and potatoes, Marjorie’s green thumb was a source of joy and pride.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hix; her parents Bessie and Bert; her sisters Gladys, Iona, Janice, and Billie; her brother JB; her son Bobby; and her grandson Douglas.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Barbara DuShane and her partner Charles Willis; granddaughter Kimberly DuShane; great-grandson Joseph DuShane and his partner Allison Layton; great-granddaughters Ashley Jourden and her husband RJ, Heather Barnhart and her husband Michael, and Lindsey Hamer and her husband Scott; and great-great-grandchildren Rylan and Addyson.
