Marjory Kent Vickery's Obituary
Marjory Kent Vickery passed away surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Isaiah and Macy Kent, her brother Bill Kent and her beloved husband, Paul Byron Vickery. She is survived by her children, Kent Vickery (Tari), Kathleen Bolin (Dana), Preston Vickery (Beverly), Peter Vickery (Rose) and Kristina Vickery, along with her grandchildren, Heather Vickery, Kimberly Bolin (Ben Ballay), Jason Vickery (Christy), Jennifer Colaco (Colin), Danielle Bolin Soccommono and Charles Vickery, and her great-grandchildren, Noah Vickery, Kiara Ballay, Amina Vickery, Sarah Kate Vickery, Eva and Emma Soccommano. Marjory was a trailblazer and earth shaker, an artist, and world traveler, a wife, and mother, but most importantly a follower of Christ. She was active in her community believing the world is a better place when you give back. She led by example and was recognized for her many contributions throughout the years, evidenced by being the first woman elected to the Lewisville ISD School Board. In addition, she was the first republican woman elected to the Texas State School Board as well as being the first Republican elected to state office from Denton County. She was recognized as the Lewisville Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year. One of her greatest honors was having the Marjory Kent Vickery Elementary School named for her. In addition, she was honored by Denton County Commissioners Court proclaiming July 9th as Marjory Kent Vickery Day. She championed education at all levels and promoted the arts as often as possible, including the Lewisville Lake Symphony Orchestra, Greater Lewisville Arts Alliance, and every refrigerator art piece her family could produce. She was fashionable, classy, kind, knew the importance of a good lipstick and wrote beautiful thank you notes. Marjory and Paul’s 63 years of wedded bliss were filled with admiration, support, humor and a love that set the example for future generations. They experienced life together to the fullest and were both able to live out their days on their family homestead surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of Marjory’s life will be held Tuesday, May 9th at 10 AM with visitation beginning at 9 AM at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 6101 Morriss Road, Flower Mound. Memorials may be given to Trietsch Covenant Global Missions, Lewisville Lake Symphony or the Lewisville Education Foundation for Vickery Elementary School. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 1 hour prior to the funeral service at 10:00 am, at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church in Flower Mound. A light lunch and reception will follow the service.
