Mark Gustafson's Obituary
Mark Edward Gustafson passed through the very thin veil between here and his eternal home on Sunday, January 29, 2023, having been here for 73 years. He was born October 2, 1949 to Eddie and Maxine Gustafson in Topeka, KS and saw his sister, Cynthia (Gustafson) Klist join the family a couple of years later.
The family moved to Wichita Falls, TX, when Mark was 3 years old and he later graduated from Midwestern State University to pursue a master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University and a career in accounting. He actively participated in the local Bible Chair at Midwestern where he met and later married Roberta Lifsey on January 18, 1974, and they settled in Greenville, TX, where both daughters were born, Tasha (Gustafson) Lindt and Amber (Gustafson) Uhl.
Mark and Roberta joined with a small group of Christian friends to start meeting as a congregation, Pecan Grove Church of Christ, in 1978. They worked and worshipped there until they moved to Tyler in 2006 . Mark’s first bout with health difficulties was in 1982 and he had ongoing struggles from that point. However, his attitude remained jovial and upbeat and he was always quick to make others laugh.
Mark remained constant in his faith and conviction that knowing the Lord is the only eternal thing that matters and he was very ready to go home when the time came.
Mark is survived by his wife, Roberta Gustafson, two daughters, Tasha (and Jared) Lindt and Amber (and Chris) Uhl; two granddaughters, Mara and Rose; his sister, Cynthia Klist; and extended family.
A celebration of life memorial will be held in Tyler at Shiloh Road Church of Christ on Saturday, February 11, 10-11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, Mark's family requests contributions in his memory be directed to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort (https://www.disasterreliefeffort.org/donate) or to the Head for the Cure Foundation (https://headforthecure.org/content/donate).
