Mark Alan Hardick's Obituary
Hardick, Mark Alan was born August 22, 1930, in Avery, Oklahoma and passed away on March 24, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. He was the eldest son of Sam and Jeannette Hardick. Mark was raised on a 40-acre farm just south of Cushing, Oklahoma with four brothers and one sister. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1948. After one semester at Oklahoma State, Mark enlisted in the navy and served as a radioman on the frigate USS Merrick during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, Mark enrolled at Benedictine College, where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Mary Steele. Upon graduation with a degree in English, Mark held teaching jobs in the Wichita, Kansas area while earning a master’s degree at Emporia State. He then accepted a teaching position at Oklahoma State University for the next ten years before becoming a technical writer for various companies in the Oklahoma City area. Mark retired at the age of 67. He enjoyed fishing, writing short stories and poems, and spending time with his grandchildren. Mark is survived by four brothers, Pat, Mike, Tim, and Mahlon Hardick; sister, Sammy Towner; four sons, Jim, Tom, Dave, and Dan Hardick, as well as his 17 beloved grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Christus St. Joseph Village-Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cushing, Oklahoma.
