Mark Andrew Rice's Obituary
Mark Andrew Rice, a devoted husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully after a 7 year battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 5, 1951, in Bonham, Texas, to the late John Woodie and Margaret Reynolds Rice, Mark was raised in Dallas and graduated from Lake Highlands High School in 1969. He went on to earn a degree in history from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1973.
Mark began his career in sales with Burroughs Business Forms in Waco, Texas, and later found his calling in the temporary staffing industry. Over the years, he held positions of leadership with Norrell, TRC, Temps Inc., and ultimately retired from Babich & Associates in 2017. While at TRC, he met Diane Hall. The two were married on May 7, 1994, and shared 31 wonderful years together, raising their son, Justin Blake Rice.
Mark had a passion for history, especially World War II, and loved collecting memorabilia. He was a talented writer and photographer, publishing two books: Downtown Dallas: Romantic Past, Modern Renaissance (2007) and Dallas at Dawn: Rare Images and Forgotten Stories (2019). He was also an avid movie lover, with Lonesome Dove holding a special place in his heart.
A proud Eagle Scout, Mark remained involved in Scouting for many years. He was a longtime member of Park Cities Baptist Church, where he taught adult Sunday School. Mark's quick wit, warmth, and great sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Rice; sons Justin Blake Rice and Christopher Michael Rice; his brother, John Rice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Mark’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m., in Ellis Chapel at Park Cities Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mark’s name to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research at lustgarten.org.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many friends, loved ones, and prayer warriors who offered unwavering support throughout Mark’s illness. We love you, Mark, and rest in the promise of seeing you again.
