Mark Woodson's Obituary
Mark William Woodson was 68 years old when he passed away peacefully early in the morning on July 7th, 2025, surrounded by immediate family and kin at his care home in Plano, Texas. He was a longtime resident of 31 years in Richardson, Texas, prior to his diagnosis with Frontotemporal Dementia and his subsequent move to assisted living in 2017.
Mark was born on September 27, 1956, in Washington, Missouri, to William Clark and Verna May Adelaide (Himmelberg) Woodson. He graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in 1979. Shortly after graduation, Mark moved to Dallas, Texas, to begin his career with Texas Instruments.
Over the course of a 34-year career with Texas Instruments and later Raytheon, Mark specialized in advanced weapon system electronic packaging as a producibility engineer. He worked to bridge the gap between design and manufacturing, ensuring that mission-critical defense technologies could be produced with precision, efficiency, and reliability. His contributions played a vital role in the development of high-performance systems essential to national security.
On March 19, 1994, Mark was united in marriage to Monica Lynne Culling. Together, they raised their son, John Joseph, born in 1996, in Richardson, Texas.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Monica, and their son, John; his mother, Verna (Himmelberg) Woodson of St. Louis, Missouri; and his siblings: Marleen (Alan) Schooler of Osage Beach, Missouri; Michael Woodson of Houston, Texas; Deborah (Larry) Henley of Loudonville, Ohio; Sharon (Richard) Schmidt of St. Louis, Missouri; Karen (Mike Reising) Woodson of Eugene, Oregon; Robert Woodson of Las Vegas, Nevada; Susan (Brea) Woodson of Omaha, Nebraska; and Judith (Eric) Grainger of Raytown, Missouri. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Patrick Fish of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 19 nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, William Clark Woodson, and his sister, Donna Marie Fish.
Mark’s Catholic faith was the foundation of his life, centered on consecration to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was a parishioner at St. Paul Catholic Church in Richardson, where he was deeply involved in pro-life ministry. He played an instrumental role in the Dallas Diocese Pro-Life Committee’s initiative to establish Respect Life Ministries in every parish. Mark also volunteered for many years with Hearts & Hammers, helping restore homes for those in need.
Family was incredibly important to Mark. He was active in the Apostolate for Family Consecration, which supports families in growing in holiness and living Christ-centered lives. He was the family cameraman, always ready to document precious memories at gatherings.
Mark had many hobbies and creative interests. He loved playing strategy board games with friends and attended the annual Board Game Geek Conference in Dallas. He spent countless hours in his garage working on woodworking projects and also enjoyed oil painting and wood carving, creating many cherished pieces of art. Other favorite pastimes included cycling, adventures outdoors and family camping trips, building a Catholic library, reading, and adding to his coin collection.
Mark will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his devotion to family and community, and his quiet yet profound contributions to both his professional field and his church. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and integrity.
