Marlene Weinkauf Loring's Obituary
Marlene Jeanette Weinkauf was born 12/9/1932 in Alpena, MI to parents William Richard Weinkauf and Sophie Lang. As a young child she sang on the local radio station with her sisters and their dad as the director. After graduating from hish school with cum laude honors, she joined the Women’s Air Force where she was trained in photography. It was there she met Douglas Stokes and later married. They had 3 children, Mark, Chanda and Dustin and moved to Lubbock, TX where Marlene worked part-time for Sears while raising the family. She made sure her children went to church so that each of them would come to know how much God loved them and invite Jesus into their hearts. Sadly, after more than 20 years of marriage, they were divorced and Marlene began a career with Texas Instruments where she became a quality control inspector. Marlene enjoyed oil painting and singing in the church choir. Years later, Marlene moved to the DFW area to live near children and grandchildren, and it was here at First Baptist Church Garland that Marlene met and fell in love with Ben Loring, Sr. They were married in June 1985, and thus began a devoted, Christ-centered partnership with a ministry of love, hugs and spiritual guidance to family and friends. For the past 7 years, Ben has faithfully and tenderly taken care of Marlene during her illness until he went to be with the Lord this past March. Marlene is survived by: siblings, Sally Preston, Marjorie Graichen and William Jacques; her children: Mark Stokes, Chanda Dearing and Dustin Stokes. She was also blessed to have 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Marlene was a loving wife and mother, known to most as “Granny”. The strength of her character and the quality of her love was grounded in her faith in Jesus Christ. Her family is blessed by the spiritual heritage she has left behind. We will miss her very much.
