Marlys Melva Rizos' Obituary
Marlys Melva Welper Rizos went home to her Lord on May 25th, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home as she peacefully let go of this world and took the hand of Jesus. Marlys Melva Welper was born October 9,1930 in Waukon, Iowa. Her grandparents immigrated from Settrup-Hanover Germany. Her parents were Dora Beal Welper and Otto Welper. Marlys grew up in Marion, Iowa, where she worked at Collins Radio when she met the love of her life and soon-to-be husband John Rizos. Together, they raised four children. Marlys loved her family and she loved them well. Marlys also worked passionately and tirelessly as a volunteer CASA advocate for many foster-home children here in Dallas. One of the young boys she advocated for is now a Supervisor at CASA, with whom she was recently honored by CASA. Marlys was also an avid golfer and bridge player in her heyday. She loved to travel and possessed a keen and witty sense of humor. The one and only love of Marlys’ life is her husband John, to whom she was married for 65 years. During Marlys’ battle late in life with breast cancer and then with Alzheimer’s, John devoted himself totally and unconditionally to Marlys’ care, providing her with everything she needed with no thought for himself, setting a beautiful example to his family of what true love and devotion is. Marlys is survived by her husband, John P. Rizos, her sons Michael Rizos and Linda Maraz, Rick Rizos & wife Brenda, David Rizos and & wife Donna, and daughter Tracy Vaughan and husband David; her grandchildren Jeffrey Rizos, Megan Rizos, Ryan Rizos, Kyle Rizos, Samantha Garelick and husband Justin, Jacob Rizos, Andrew Vaughan and Emma Vaughan; great-grandchildren Mason Ruestmann and Brooks Garelick. Marlys will be greatly missed by all who survive her but we are comforted knowing that she is, in her mind and body, no longer suffering. She is dancing in Heaven in the presence and peace of her Lord. Well done, good and faithful servant. John Rizos and his family would like to thank all the caretakers and hospice caretakers that made this difficult time so much easier. You are truly God’s angels here on earth. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
