Marna Louise Darst McGrath, 97, of Dallas, TX, died April 29, 2024. She was born December
8, 1926 to Howard Darst and Ida Reed Darst in Akron, OH. Marna grew up in Akron and moved
to Texas in conjunction with her marriage to Bernard McGrath, a marriage that lasted more than
70 years. Marna used her experience in social work, as well as her homemaking skills, to
shepherd the family through Bern’s many promotional moves with Texaco. An avid baseball fan
since she was a young girl, Marna cheered for her Houston Astros until the end of her life.
Marna is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Howard Darst Jr. She is
survived by her children Marsha McGrath and husband Drew Marcks, Diane McGrath, Tom
McGrath and his wife Donna McGrath, and Joan McGrath. She is also survived by three
grandchildren; Christine McGrath, Connor McGrath, and Ana Marcks.
Marna was known for her compassion, her interest in others, her communication skills, and her
appreciation for a good box of chocolates. She was a good friend to many and a great mom to
her children. She will be missed.
