Martha Reid Aldridge
Martha was born August 23, 1937, in Houston, TX to John Bond and Elizabeth Smith Reid. Martha and her siblings were raised in Woodville, TX where she was a 1955 graduate of Kirby High School. She later attended Baylor University where she studied music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1959.
While at Baylor, Martha met and fell in love with Gene C. Aldridge, an Air Force captain who was stationed at Connally AFB in Waco. The two would later marry and settle in Richardson, TX where they raised three children. Martha had a servant’s heart and was active with numerous philanthropic and social organizations including the Richardson Women’s Club, P.E.O., The Bridge Club, The Gourmet Club, The Book Club, Teeny Tiny and the First United Methodist Church of Richardson (FUMCR).
Martha and Gene joined FUMCR shortly after relocating to Richardson in the early 60’s where they found a loving spiritual home making life-long friends. Martha was active in church choir, musical programs, Meals on Wheels, Stephen Ministries, mission trips, and numerous other church-related activities.
Martha was a loving, Christian woman who always greeted you with a smile, gave of her time, handled life’s hurdles with dignity and calm, and was a pillar of strength for her family and those in need. Her absence will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Martha joined her Savior Jesus Christ on June 2, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ann, her brother John, her husband Gene, and her son Philip. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Aldridge, son and daughter-in-law J. Bart and Deborah Aldridge, daughter-in-law Jenny J. Aldridge, grandchildren Reid and Kendall Aldridge, Shayan and Evelyn (Aldridge) Naderpour, Connor and Libby (Aldridge) Rennick, Drew and Emma Aldridge, Blake Aldridge and girlfriend Hannah Sage, Philip Aldridge and girlfriend Xaria Armstrong, and John Aldridge. Additionally, Martha leaves behind many loving and devoted friends and family members.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in the sanctuary at 4:00 PM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. Reception to follow. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the FUMCR, Business Office, P. O.
