Ode to Mrs. Eastwood
Sometimes in life you are blessed to meet a true angel. Someone whose soul is so sweet and so precious that they give you great gift; unconditional love. Within this love you feel so safe and so held that you can relax and be who you truly are.
This is Mrs. Eastwood, a true gem of a person. Her eyes were always kind hearted and her voice was like a hug. When I was in junior high and high school, she would have me over to her house. It was a great comfort for me to be there. She taught me how to prepare fabric and arrange a pattern on it. Together, we would carefully cut the pieces and then she showed me how to sew them. She would always fix me a nice lunch when I went to visit. These were special times that I will always cherish in my heart.
We made several dresses together and I still have them. She would also help to alter other dresses that were made by my Aunt Grace, for my piano recitals.
Mrs. Eastwood loved the birds that came to her feeder outside and flowers, especially the lily of the valley. I once made her a little crocheted lamb, which she kept in a basket in her sewing room. She was devoted to God and her spiritual community at St. Luke’s and sewed many layettes for Lutheran World Relief.
She always sent me the most thoughtful cards on my birthday and other holidays. Inside would be a beautiful note, written in her exquisite cursive writing. She would tell me about what she had been doing and about her family and grandchildren.
I love you, Mrs. Eastwood, and I’m so glad that we met in this lifetime and got to share many special times and moments together.
It was truly healing for me to know you and spend time with you, and your memory will always bring warmth to my heart and a smile to my face.
Thank you so much.
I love you so much.
May your soul fly like the angel you are.
May you and Mr. Eastwood be together with God.
Love,
Heather
