Martha Jean Hargrove's Obituary
Martha Jean (Coats) Hargrove, 99, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. She was born in Chillicothe, TX, on December 15, 1925, to Harold and Gay Coates. She was the sixth of nine children and the first girl!
Her family moved to Seagraves, TX, in 1938 when her dad was made agent for the Santa Fe Railroad. Martha graduated from the Hendrick Memorial School of Nursing in Abilene. She worked at Wadley Cancer Center for several years and retired in 1985. In 1946, Martha served in the Women’s Army Corp.
On June 5, 1947, Martha married Melvin Hargrove in Seagraves, Texas. They returned to the same house in 1997 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived in Hobbs, New Mexico for several years and their 3 children were born there.
Martha was raised in the Church of Christ and became a Christian at an early age. She loved the Lord and always served faithfully. She held ladies Bible study in her home for many years. She loved people and people loved her!
Melvin and Martha moved to Farmers Branch, TX in 1971. They were members of the Farmers Branch Church of Christ. Melvin and son, Walker, operated a family business: Harold’s Booth Mfg. For about 20 years.
Martha was predeceased by parents, Harold and Gay Coats; brothers David Coats, Thomas Coats, Jay Coates, Wayne Coats, Victor Coats, and Paul Coats; one sister, Ellen Keele; and one child, Deidra Hargrove.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, Walker (Pam) of Farmers Branch, TX; daughter Meleine Mills (Garland Rychlik) of Austin, TX; one sister, Peggy Conrad of Oklahoma City; one grandchild, Rachel Hargrove of Farmers Branch, TX; and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
A graveside is scheduled beginning at 12 PM on Monday, July 7th, 2025, at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, located in the Garden of Freedom, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
